Run safely
Of course, to assure your safety, we have arranged for first-aid workers, doctors and nurses. But the first element of the trail runner's safety……. is the trailer himself.
It is in your preparation, your experience and your awareness of the specificities of the event in which you are going to participate, that your safety lies.

Obligatory equipment:
No, it is not there to annoy you. Even in summer, sudden changes of weather conditions can occur. It can snow, hail; be -10 degrees above 2000m …...it can also be more than 30 degrees!
Although you are there "to play to win" or "to try to finish", you are not immune from injury which might necessitate waiting for help. In the case of difficult conditions, your safety will then depend upon the quality of what you put in your bag.

Important reminder: a mobile phone is a part of the obligatory equipment
A mobile telephone is obligatory for each runner with the international roaming action activated throughout the race and with the battery in working order. It is, actually, very important for your security, because, in the case of some problem, a weather warning or if we haven't seen you pass through a control point, the organisation can contact you with an alert, or to know where you are and whether you need help.
If the race should be stopped, keep your telephone switched on to receive further race information. The organisation must be able to contact you under any circumstance, which includes before and after the race, due to bad weather or any other unforeseen occurrence.
Put the following numbers into the memory:
Race HQ: +33 4 50 53 47 51; SOS ALERT: France 112, Italy 118, Switzerland 144.

Please note: in the absence of a mobile telephone at the obligatory equipment control you will be disqualified, don't forget it!
Moreover don't forget to charge the battery before the race

Whatever the light!
"Night-time, I love it! For a good sleep certainly; but moreover to motivate me, running in the mountains, for preference, to savour the truly particular atmosphere. During The North Face® Ultra-Trail du Mont-Blanc® each of the events will experience one or two very dark periods. The night engenders apprehension for many, so there is a need to feel reassured by good lighting.
Nevertheless, during the training courses that I lead, I very often notice that runners leave with torches which are ineffective or whose batteries are weak. This is detrimental (truly!) for their assurance, performance and also safety.
Personally I do not hesitate any more, even if at the front of the race, to use a heavier lamp with a more intense light. During the last years I have even used the PETZL Ultra: what a comfort to run as if in broad daylight! Several hundred additional grams are nothing in comparison with the resulting advantages.
Confidence therefore for those who are apprehensive about the difficulty of this night-time period; a speed, as if in almost broad daylight; and no doubt the avoidance of pebbles, roots, and other obstacles, and any resulting falls.
I wish you in any case, that during your next challenge, you see as well at night as during the day, and I wish you all the success you hope for." Vincent DELABARRE
